Our Purpose

Throughout the pandemic, personal need was brought to the forefront of society as a whole. Many people went without even the basic needs. Food pantries were closed, other agencies became overrun, and many agencies had to shift their focus. In recent days, the need continues to grow along with inflation. We, at the church, went in search of a niche need that our small congregation could fill in our community that was not already being filled by others. This is why the Macomb Personal Care Closet was created. Our goal is not to supply everyone’s daily needs as we are too small to do that, but many are going without their basic hygienic needs being met at all, and it is for them that we want to do what we can to help.

What We Provide

The following is a list of the expected items we wish to provide through the Macomb Personal Care Pantry:

Other products may be available depending on donations. Also, since this is a self-supporting charitable organization, we may or may not be able to supply everything, but will do our best as funds are available.

Our Policies

Eligibility

All who express the need for our services will be accepted. However, there will be limitations on quantities based on current support levels as well as personal need. Also, frequency of usage will be defined below.

Quantities**

One of each of the items we supply as one’s need exists.

Frequency**

Once per month, up to 6 times per calendar year.

Hours of Operation

*First Saturday of the Month from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm

Third Wednesday of the Month from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm

Procedures

Upon arriving at the church, please park on either the street, or in the church parking lot. The WIU lot may be used on the weekends.

Please enter the front doors and walk to the table. There will be two stations, one for those visiting the closet for the first time and one for those that have been to the closet before.

Once you are checked in, a volunteer will take you back to the closet and will help you through the process of gathering items based on limitations and your needs.

Emergencies

While we are only open two days a month, we understand that emergency displacements will happen from time to time. After contact from other agencies on your behalf (agencies such as the Macomb Police Department or other assistance agencies) we will schedule a time for you or for them to get access to the closet. This type of assistance will be handled on a case-by-case basis and we cannot always guarantee that we will have items available depending on our current level of support and supplies.

Volunteers

The Macomb Personal Care Closet is operated by volunteers and all are welcome to help.

We will be looking for volunteers to serve during the open hours and to help maintain the Macomb Personal Care Closet. If you or your organization need community service hours, or just would like to be involved, please contact us at MacombPCC@gmail.com.
