What’s Going On?

A lot of things are happening here at UBC, so much I have fallen behind on updating the website and for that I do apologize, but it should be up to date as of today. We are looking for someone within the church to help with our technology as the website and media is the new front door to the church. That said, here are a few things going on at UBC.

We are currently hosting the U.V.O.W.I.S. group every week which is WIU’s Inspirational singers group and they are outstanding. I am hoping to get them to come sing one Sunday here very soon.

Our collegiate ministry 159 is in full swing and we even hosted a collegiate ministry retreat out at Lake Serenity with what we called an “Unplugged” weekend. We have around 24 students we are ministering to at the moment and look forward to how God will use each of them.

Perhaps one of the biggest things to have happen in UBC life is we have consented together on a new vision and direction for the church. Through much prayer God pointed me to what has become the focus of that vision. Matthew 22:36b-40, which says:

“36 …Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.” – Matthew 22:36b-40 ESV

Jesus was asked about the what and he answered with the who. He gave two commandments for us, and according to the text, on these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets, and on these two commandments depend all the works of our church as well.

Love is not possible without relationships; therefore, relationships are now at the center of our direction as a church and as individuals alike. With that in mind our new vision at UBC is:

University Baptist Church

Adoring God

Building relationships

Connecting to our community

If everything we do follows this, based on the two greatest commandments, I believe and pray that we will continually, as a church, move together in the same direction.

Will you join us?
